REVIEW(Through the Reflection )
LAMENT - Through The Reflection (digi)Reissue of this Mexican band's second album, originally released in 1999. A little more adventurous and melodic than their 'Tears of a Leper' debut, this reissue adds the band's four-song 1994 demo, when they were known as Beheaded,This Christian metal band have considerably mutated their sound over the years, going from death to power metal, However here you have "Through The Reflection" ,A progressive death metal reissue is the order of the day from Lament. Lament has been a stalwart in the Mexican underground extreme scene for quite some time. Starting out as a death / grind outfit called Beheaded, the band changed its name to Lament as it embraced a more progressive / melodic death metal sound. Lament followed up their debut album "Tears of a Leper" with "Through the Reflection", released on Finland's Little Rose Productions in 1999 in limited quantities. The album has a melancholy, almost doom-like aura about it, while maintaining more of a mid-tempo progressive thrash sound. The vocals have more of the shouty thrash feel with some death moments, and the bass playing is some of the most remarkable that you will ever hear on an extreme metal release, almost stealing the show and becoming the lead instrument. The drumming is also fantastic and very progressive, with many tempo and time signature changes, while also mixing in the band's Mexican heritage with some Flamenco influence. Overall, this is a very solid album that was unfortunately not heard by many due to its initial short run, and Bombworks Records is ready to let the world hear how great of an album this is. The release features all new artwork in digipak form and, as a bonus, will also include the original 4-song Beheaded demo that was only ever previously available on cassette and provide a glimpse into Lament's brutal beginnings when they were playing allout grind / death. Fans of Dark Tranquility, Manowar, Mortification, and Ethereal Scourge should look no further for a death metal fix with a twist.Lament is hailing from Mexico. That also shows off in their music and make their sound unique. Cool to hear some mexican sounds! For the most part the sound is melodic, varied and have beautiful harmonies. The vocals are quite extreme and I think he screams too much and growls too little. It almost sounds like a hardcore voice. It would have sounded much better if the singer just growled. One cool thing though is that Abel, the singer is also the bands drummer. On the negative side some tunes looses speed and becomes really boring. More heaviness wouldn't hurt either. Despite of this I like the album but I do think it would have been much better with these improvements. But as I said it's very cool with the mexican influences in their sound. The lyrics deals with the heavenly goal that gives us strength to carry on, even when it's hard(http://www.holymetalrob.com/)
