Feat. former Neon Cross guitarist P.K. Mitchell. The charismatic guitarist solo project took old hymns and put them to some outrageous heavy groove and funk metal. The disc features ex-Vengeance Rising/Die Happy Drummer Glen Manacruso, former Barren Cross bassist Jim LaVerde and former Die Happy/Joshua vocalist Robin Kyle Bassari and the great Phil Christian!.http://www.myspace.com/pkmitchell .There have been previous attempts down the years to rock up the hymns but none get near this ear-bleeding shredding of the ancient anthems. From the jokey opening where a 78 soprano tries in vain to find the note before stylus is kicked off record, through to the belching voice box intro of "Nothing But The Blood" and onwards through eight more venerable hymns transformed into metal/heavy rock opuses by producer/guitarist extraordinaire P K Mithcell and a series of guest vocalists, this is powerful stuff. It's been two years since Patriot Records (Rugged's original name) made this riotous romp over the religious sensibilities of dusty hymnody and 'All Hail The Power' still exudes passion and joyful conviction. Thoroughly recommended. If you are a lover of hard rock, lead guitar, and Jesus Christ, this is the cd for you! Great song writing, awesome riffs and even better leads. The lyrics are a little straight forward and blunt for lyrical purists, but a great message and great rock nonetheless. Definitely check this one out,Even though the title says "...hymns...", don't let that fool you. This is definitely christian rock and roll. Understand that the title was released in 1994, so the whole set is drenched in familiar riff styles and beats from the 80's and early 90's. Driving bass and hard guitar effects are used freely throughout. The choice of song titles are popular and familiar, and the lyrics are all straight from your local church hymnal. BUT this is NOT a church camp sing; this is air-guitar, shout what you believe music. In fact, none of the songs follows the "hymnal" chord progressions, so those of you who think that the artist is just attempting to "rock up" the usual selections are in for a great surprise. These were (and for those who have never heard this album, these are) all-new arrangements.worth the investment if you are looking for familiar themes done totally different(http://www.holymetalrob.com/)
