"From the small hicktown of Chillicothe, Ohio comes the next metallic goliath. Woe of Tyrants is comprised of five long haired dudes who love to play metal as it was back in 1988, fast, furious, If you love the vintage sounds of Testament, Exodus, Metallica, Megadeth, Dark Angel,then you are going to love what Woe of Tyrants are doing in 2007. Recorded in their home state of Ohio, those sessions were handed over to producer, Jamie King (Through the Eyes of the Dead, Between the Buried and Me, Killwhitneydead, Glass Casket, Year of Desolation etc) to handle the final mix to bring about the most crushing sound imaginable. With a modern attack that is reminiscent to Lamb Of God and Shadows Fall but still maintaining the classics sounds of their metal forefathers Woe of Tyrants is ready to educate and introduce current scenesters to what REAL METAL is all about." Start cliche band biography here: Woe of Tyrants began with several goals in mind, the main being to create heavy, intelligent music that can promote a positive message alongside a chaotic and technical sound. Beginning in early 2004, the group has undergone several line-up changes, as the sacrifices that come with increasing success are certainly not for everyone. WoT released their critically acclaimed debut "Behold the Lion" through Tribunal Records in June of 2007, and after only two months on the shelves the band was already in talks with several major players in the independent label market. In October of 2007, Woe of Tyrants signed a multi-album deal with Metal Blade Records (As I Lay Dying, Black Dahlia Murder, Cannibal Corpse, Gwar, etc), and immediately began writing what will be their first worldwide release entitled "Kingdom of Might", slated to hit shelves in January of 2009. The album was engineered in its entirety by Joey Sturgis of Foundation Studios (The Devil Wears Prada, Gwen Stacy, Brother Von Doom). While the group has not toured an extensive amount as of yet, thanks to a new partnership with the all purpose Chicago based company Heavy Hitter, Inc (The Human Abstract, Arsis, Through the Eyes of the Dead), Woe of Tyrants plans to be anywhere and everywhere to get this album into the hands of true fans of artistic expression worldwide... Woe of Tyrants are comprised of a group averaging 21 years of age, and with this new record will be traveling the globe attempting to contribute to the cause that is 'real metal', without gimmicks, nor any regard for what is 'scene'. It seemed to merge catchy melodies from a variety of places into a tempo jumping, grindy package supported by lots of death metal beats, and monstrous vocals.With the exception of the huge tempo jumps, I doubt many would be able to spot the subtle differences between “Behold the Lion” and “Kingdom of Might”. The previous album harvested many melodies and harmonies from Swedish melodic death metal, some Swedish inspired melodic metalcore (don’t worry, no breakdowns or d-beats were ever present), and even a little bit of glam metal. This time around, the band is much more focused on guitar harmonies from power metal, and traditional metal, and even a few riffs that would fit on a Judas Priest album. The whole thing is supported by quite a few death metal double-bass beats, and every kind of blast beat imaginable, yet the band arrives at the blast beats in such a natural manner that they don’t seem out of place at all, and they actually flow with the rest of the music. And just like before, vocals growled like a monster, all done with fervent passion.One would think that any new band coming out with an album with anything closely related to melodic death metal would be absolutely irrelevant, and for the most part they’d be absolutely right. Unless your Arsis or Woe of Tyrants, you might as well kiss any chance of making that new melodic anything metal album goodbye,Finally Holy smokes! Definitely one of the best albums I have heard in a long while. Amazing musically, bringing in a ton of awesome 80s riffs, mixing that with the technical metalcore/death sound. A huge plus; the lyrics are very Christ-centered,This is an absolute masterpiece and the fact that they have melded their sound so well in just a couple short years this band will have much more to say in the future.
