REVIEW FOR THE ALBUM(Arise And Conquer)
After performing over 500 shows in the past 2 years and building their debut album Pride Of The Wicked from the ground up, War Of Ages teamed up with As I Lay Dying s Tim Lambesis to produce their highly anticipated follow up album Arise And Conquer . The result is an album finely crafted of 11 tracks that blur the lines between hardcore and metal much like the bands they have toured alongside of such as Soilwork, Throwdown, Bleeding Through, Terror and All Shall Perish.War of Ages have come a far way since the original debute album, which was a very weak release. Fire in the Tomb was a great redemption for those songs and the band. Pride of the Wicked was even better. And this album showcases the band's improved skills across the board. Tight playing, great songwriting.Arise and Conquer is War of Ages third full length studio album and it’s a small step downward in terms of material. It’s even more of a melo-death metal based album than Pride of the Wicked was. The songs have been shortened a bit and the album is more melodic, harmony is more present as well. The metalcore influences from Pride of the Wicked are no longer present which is a good thing.On Arise and Conquer the leads, riffs, and solos are very similar to Pride of the Wicked and are still very entertaining. Arise and Conquer has more variety than War of Ages previous full length album, which makes it even less cohesive. A weird thing about Arise in Conquer is that the production doesn’t seam to give as much punch and heaviness to the album as it did on Pride of the Wicked. The standouts are also a bit weaker than Pride and could have used better leads. Arise and Conquer could have been better than Pride of the Wicked if the formula was improved upon with some newer ideas.When I first heard these guys I knew they had some serious talent on their shoes -- what?--, and this cd, to my incredible un-disappointment, has been such an amazing testament to that hunch. this record is hard, fast, creative, melodic, and full of foot-stomping awesomeness that will get your adrenaline flowing like white water rapids. no joke. I love this band,they prove that you can be a Christian and still deliver a beatdown. they are uplifting just like their labelmates Flee The Seen. Facedown has a bright future ahead of them.The band itself is in top form and still shows off their excellent musical abilities. Leroy Hamp’s hardcore vocals sound exactly the same as on Pride of the wicked, except for the more occasional use of melo-death screams. The two guitarists pull of even better solos, but seam to focus more on the riffs than the leads. The drumming is good he uses fill when their needed, and is proficient at the double kick bass. The bassist seams to lack some of the punch that he had on Pride of the Wicked, I believe it’s more the productions fault though. While Arise and Conquer has its weaknesses, it is still very good and entertains like its predecessor throughout. Like stated above, with some newer ideas and more work on their formula, War of Age’s next album could be a melo-death classic. The best songs are "All Consuming Fire", "Salvation", "Sleep of Prisoners" (which has an excellent solo in the likes of Aftermath from Pride of the Wicked), "The Deception of Strongholds", and the rerecording of "The Awakening". I recommend Arise and Conquer to fans of War of Ages and Christian/secular melo-death metal.War of ages is the most talented Christian metal/metal core bands going right now right alongside others like haste the Day, living sacrifice, and becoming the archetype. The music style is very similar to other bands in the same genre such as as I lay dying but the formula works very well on this album. The previous album "pride of the wicked" show cased some serious talent and great Christian lyrics but was missing that special something this record has. For some reason whenever I pop this album in I feel like Gods speaking to me through most of the songs. Songs like "through the flames" are semi melodic but def heavy enough to appeal to the hard core fans. Other tracks like "deception of strongholds" start of slower but build up awesomely. If you like Christian metalcore or metal music in general you'll love this cd, trust me! This album is killer enough.
REVIEW FOR THE ALBUM(Pride of the Wicked)
War of Ages is excellent. Their furious guitar work, meticulous drums, passionate vocals and courageous war cries make them one of the best metalcore bands I've ever heard. On top of all that, they have a VERY STRONG message for Jesus Christ and his inspired word. It brings joy to my heart when I hear a song break into blistering metal fury with the refrain, "We will rise!" or "Pour your sight upon me." Each song is 100% motivational. From the beautiful message of "From the Ashes" to the EXCEEDINGLY manly "Heart of a Warrior," this album remains a pure and beautiful example of Christian hardcore done right.This Disc Gets NOWHERE enough recognition. This is a thoroughly enjoyable metalcore Disc that will captivate you from beginning to end with thrashing riffs, pounding drums, intricate melodies, and refreshingly meaningful lyrics,Not one song is skippable on this Album. Every song is brutal, positive, and fresh. I would normally make a list of notable songs for a review, but honestly that would encompass the whole list of songs - although there is an amazingly sick guitar duo at the last minute and half of Aftermath that cannot go unrecognized,Each song has its distinct sound so it never feels like you are listening to the same song 10 times. The vocals consist of spoken, mid-range, semi-clean, and harsh vocals. And you shouldn't need to refer to the lyric book because they can be easily heard,In conclusion, yes this band is signed on Facedown Records and is a Christian band, but Christian or not, this album will and should appeal to any individual. This band is one of the best metalcore bands out right now and it's only a matter of time before this band blows up.
