BIOGRAPHY:
"GLAD formed on the campus of West Chester State University of Pennsylvania[1] when singer Ed Nalle auditioned for a new Christian band. Nalle would write and produce much of GLAD's early material in addition to his role as lead vocalist. The other members (from Temple University in Philadelphia) were Bob Kauflin (keyboards, vocals), T. Coble (bass, vocals), John Bolles (guitar, vocals), and Brad Curry (drums). The group's name was chosen from a poll taken at a shopping mall. Playing over 200 dates annually at college campuses, churches and concert halls throughout the United States, GLAD released their first two albums on Myrrh Records in 1978 and 1980. GLAD, their debut album, was enthusiastically received by young Christian music lovers interested in a gospel message presented with artistry and conviction.".(http://www.holymetalradio.es.tl/ .Impeccably arranged vocals; lush, layered harmonies; instrumental and vocal versatility -- these are the hallmarks of GLAD. GLAD, the band, began on the campus of West Chester State University near Philadelphia, PA in the early '70's. Formed as a progressive Christian rock band with classical/jazz leanings and an emphasis on complex vocals, GLAD has always borrowed from a wide range of musical genres. The band made its first two records for Myrrh/Word between 1978 and 1980. On their second outing, Beyond a Star, the group began to dabble with an a cappella sound ("The Reason"). In '81 the group signed with Benson Records (now Benson Music Group), their home for thirteen years, during which they operated initially in the "band" mode. Over time, the group's sound evolved into a sophisticated pop/jazz style, with one a cappella offering on each record. As an experiment, in 1988, the group recorded an entire album of a cappella -- a mixture of original tunes and elaborately re-arranged hymns. The public responded in a big way by purchasing over 300,000 copies of "The Acapella Project", and GLAD began to alternate their "band" and a cappella recordings. Skipping forward a few years -- in 1995 and 1996 GLAD made several bold strokes -- with "Color Outside the Lines" in the band mode; "A Cappella Gershwin," a recording of masterfully arranged compositions by George and Ira Gershwin; and another fine addition to the series which began as "just an experiment", "The A Cappella Project III". Late November of 1998 brought the release of "A Cappella Worship - The Highest Glory," a recording of God-exalting worship songs which marks the return of the team that launched the first "Acapella Project" -- George King, as executive producer; Ed Nalle, as producer; and Bob Kauflin, as lead arranger (3 original songs penned by Bob, and a total of seven arrangements).

REVIEWS FOR THE ALBUMS:(Captured in Time)
This is one of my favorite Glad albums. Not only is it a great evangelism to non-believers, but it brings a needed reminder to Christians that God is always there for us, even when we have "Questions", or want to "Hide Myself in You". This album also contains Glad's "signature" song, "Be Ye Glad", by Michael Kelly Blanchard, one of my favorites. Musically, the entire album is a masterwork of tight harmony, clean, clear vocals, and wonderful arrangements. Not only do these guys carry a powerful message, but they present it with amazing talent.Although, I like quite a bit of Glad's later material and their vocal skills have never diminished, it was earlier Glad that made an impact on me. Captured in Time represents their best effort in my opinion. Everything worked. The musicianship was first rate, the production very professional, the writing was powerful and every song is saturated with scripture. At first listen, this music is enjoyable just for the music's sake; however, repeated listens and attention to the lyrics will reveal substance beyond the aural. I highly recommend this CD while it is still in stock and available. I went many years listening to a worn out cassette but this digital version is so much better. I would also recommend Beyond a Star but it is almost impossible to find as I think it never made it to CD (if anyone knows otherwise PLEASE let me know). Romans is another title that ministers but again, extremely hard to find. This is what I consider to be one of GLAD's best band albums. Not only in musicianship but lyrically as well. This album may have been released in 1982, but the songs are still relevant today. And their listening styles are easy as ever, with light jazz to a 80's pop feel, they have it all. I have loved listening to this album for so many years, it's been such a blessing to me. And just to let you know...if I was stuck on an island with only one GLAD band album to choose, this would be one of my top picks!!!

REVIEW FOR THE ALBUM(No Less than All)
The harmony and pure musical quality of Glad is always a welcome sound on my car stereo, long road trips and made much more enjoyable by being able to "belt out" along with the guys and praise Him while driving. This particular CD doesn't have quite as many "peppy" sing along songs and some other selections I own, and I still have to say my favorite is, oddly, their Christmas CD "An Acappella Christmas" any time of year. We received an email from another Glad review from a fan looking for the recording with the different versions of "Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee" explaining an amusing possible chronology of contemporary Christian music. This is the CD with that dialogue and recording on it, if it helps you now I hope... I have at least one copy of every album (24) that Glad has ever done, going all the way back to two vinyl copies of the first album -- I wore out my first copy! I love their "a cappella" music, and my two all-time favorite songs are both "a cappella" ("Hallelujah" and "Amazing Love") but, to me, this is the greatest album they have done, with a "5-Star" from me on each and every song. These songs are perhaps the most deeply moving and spiritually challenging, real "meat" in the topics and issues they deal with, plus true "fun" in "Variations on a Hymn" at the end. I have found myself coming back to this album over-and-over again, since I got my first "vinyl" copy in 1983, for inspiration and encouragement, and I hope you will too!(http://www.holymetalrob.com/)
