BIOGRAPHY:
Holy Soldier was formed in 1985 by Basist Andy Robbins during his junior year in high school. The band's concept was to form a group of individuals with common musical interests and faith in God. During the first few years the group had made a large impact on the LA club scene, selling out clubs and receiving attention from record companies and booking agencies. In 1989 the group inked deals with Word/A&M records and International Creative Management (ICM). Shortly after their debut release HOLY SOLDIER(Japan, Canada, and Central America. HOLY SOLDIER went up Billboard's CCM sales charts to #7 and also, in 1991 received Dove Awards for Metal Album of the Year and Metal Recorded Song of the Year for the song "STRANGER". Radio wise, the group had treat success with "STRANGER" holding #1 on the CCM Hard Rock charts for 17 consecutive weeks and follow up singles "SEE NO EVIL" and "TEAR DOWN THE WALLS" also hitting #1.In 1992 the band released LAST TRAIN, their follow up CD on Word/Epic records, and again hit the road for over a year covering the US, Europe, Japan and Mexico. LAST TRAIN charted #10 on Billboards CCM sales chart and received Dove Award nominations for Rock Song of the Year for the songs "LAST TRAIN" and "DEAD END DRIVE" and also received from The Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), an award for the song "LAST TRAIN". The song "VIRTUE AND VICE" hit #1 on rock radio for 6 weeks and the song "LAST TRAIN" hit #2 for 8 weeks. In 1994, the band signed with ForeFront Records and recorded their current release PROMISE MAN. This explosive CD brought Holy Soldier's sound straight to the heart of today's modern rock.PROMISE MAN has already received Dove Awards for Hard Rock Album of the Year and Hard Rock Recorded Song of the Year for the title cut "PROMISE MAN". Radio wise, the song "PROMISE MAN" held the #1 position for 4 weeks, "RUST" hit #3 and the latest single, "MY WORLD" currently holds the #1 position on CCM's rock radio charts. The first video of this release, "WHY DON'T YOU LOOK INTO JESUS" which is a remake of the Larry Norman classic, is receiving moderate rotation on CCM video programs.Currently, the band is planning to tour Internationally throughout the fall and winter before heading back into the studio to record their next release in '97.More Of About( Holy Soldier )(http://www.holymetal.org/)
REVIEW FOR THE ALBUM(Holy Soldier)
I remember when Stryper came out. They were something new in the pop/heavy metal heyday and I rather enjoyed them. Then I saw this album in 1990, and they reminded me of Stryper, so I thought I'd give them a try. Then I threw my Stryper albums aside. These guys ROCKED!!! There's not a bad tune on this album. Singing about things other than women and partying, they had more socially concious lyrics. However, Don't let the fact they were a Christian band scare you off! The track Highlights include: "See No Evil" a tune with some pretty heavy lyrics (you'll see). "The Pain Inside of Me" is one of the most beautifully played ballads I've ever heard and the musicianship is very tight as evidenced here. The real gem on this album, however, is easily "When the Reign Comes Down". This has got to be one of the best heavy metal/hard rock tunes that's been done and damn is it a phenomenal tune. Lyrically, "Reign" is more relevant today than ever and it stands up extremely well today. 80s/90s metal fans would be doing themselves a great disservice if they didn't at least check this CD out. Also, check out another release Holy Soldier put out, "Last Train". Also very good, released before the grunge music killed the metal genre. This band formed in the mid-80's in Los Angeles and released this CD in 1990. Being a huge fan of Stryper I had to try this CD when I saw it in the record store. And like most who have listened to Holy Soldier are blown away by this band! The lyrical content is what really grabs me, they write about the issues plaguing our World. The Vocals of Steven Patrick are strong and clear making it easy to follow the message they are conveying. The whole Band is Tight, Guitars, Drums, Vocals. Highly recommend!

REVIEW FOR THE ALBUM(Promise Man)
Promise Man is a sold departure from the hair-metal that were Holy Soldier's previous albums. Slower, darker, with a down-tuned sound and an excellent Larry Norman cover. Holy Soldier fell victim to the tragedy that was the decline of interest in bands deemed 'Hair Metal'. Holy Soldier put out 3 studio albums with each getting better and better. This album won a Dove Award for the best rock album but despite this turned out to be their last studio album. All of the tracks on this album are strong musically and lyrically. Highlights include: recall around 1990 Holy Soldier being hyped as the next Led Zeppelin of the Christian industry. That was ridiculous and shows how sad much of that industry was then. Fortunately it has improved tremendously. Even so, there were/are some diamonds to be found and Holy Soldier is definitely one of them. Their first 2 cd's were in the heavy metal genre. Remind me of Great White ballads (which I love), and otherwise just excellent, original heavy metal of the 90's. Yes they had the hair, who cares? Anyone with some depth of character doesn't need to follow trends and recognizes great music is great music whether mass society agrees or not. This cd- Promise Man is a big departure. New Vocalist with much Lower Vocal sound. Accuse them of trying to go grunge, but again, think and listen for yourself and forget the masses. This is outstanding music. They made a great transition of styles. It's almost like 2 different bands but both are really exceptional. Good lyrical messages, excellent songs, vocals and guitar playing. Great cd. I've had it for several years and I still play it regularly. Wish they'd put more cd's out(http://www.holymetalrob.com)
