Do you remember this band? Were you even born yet? Probably not. Twenty-five years ago, these guys didn't really strive for commercial success, but stayed true to their calling - ministering to the lost, disenfranchised, lonely people. On stage, The Omega Band was exciting and refreshing. Whether playing for 7,000 or 70, they always gave 100 percent in every performance. As servants of the Lord, they were servants of their audience. They made every effort to be accessible to anyone who had questions or was in need of prayer both before and after shows. They poured out their hearts sharing the good news that Jesus died on the cross and rose again for you and me! We hope you enjoy these songs from the past. We'll periodically rotate some songs from various Omega demos and live recordings. God bless you all! "And I am sure that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on that day when Christ Jesus comes back again." - Philippians 1:6 (NLT)An article from 1985 summed up the ministry of The Omega Band...In music today there is a renaissance of sorts. There is a return to the simplicity and freshness of the 50's and 60's combined with the electronic complexity of the 1980's. A new genre, or "new wave" of rock has emerged for a new generation of young people. At the crest of the new wave of Christian rock is The Omega Band. Playing bold and exciting music that blazes new trails in contemporary Christian music, The Omega Band stands firm upon the Rock of Salvation, Jesus Christ.Formed in late 1980, The Omega Band shares the good news of Jesus Christ through the powerful medium of rock and roll. Their music is geared toward two, often overlooked segments of the population. First and foremost, they reach out to young people who don't yet know the Lord, Jesus Christ. Second, they minister to young Christians by presenting edifying lyrics set to the type of music young people enjoy most. Above all, the band's desire is to bring glory to God in everything they do."They really love the Lord," says Christian recording artist, Darrell Mansfield, "and they really want to minister." Music Connection magazine said, "The Omega Band sounds good, with good vocals." The Register, Orange County's largest newspaper said, "Omega's sound is unique among Christian bands, and non-Christian (or secular) bands as well. Their influences range from the Cars and Police to progressive hard rock bands, and their sound incorporates everything from punk, soul, and new wave to electronic music." (The Register, April 22, 1983)In the last five years, The Omega Band has played in numerous churches, schools, prisons, clubs, parks and on beaches throughout southern California. THey were featured on the 1984 compilation album, "What's Shakin'", released by M.R.C. The band also released a 45 on the now defunct secular record label, Taboo Records.God, and no one else, has formed this band of dedicated Christian musicians. Each memeber's talents and influences combine to make their "techno-pop" sound accessible to a broad range of young people, from "rockers" to "new wavers". God has shaped the band into a tight, family-like unit. The Omega Band ministers effectively through the limitless power of the Holy Spirit.http://www.myspace.com/theomegaband,.
